Leading South Carolina Laboratory, Premier Medical Laboratory Services, Now Providing COVID-19 Antibody Testing

GREENVILLE, SC June 9, 2020 – Premier Medical Laboratory Services, a top commercial diagnostic laboratory is now expanding their COVID-19 testing portfolio by adding antibody testing to their offerings. With a recent increase in their testing capacity to 620,000 COVID-19 tests per month, the addition of their antibody test, or Immunoglobulin G/Immunoglobulin M enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (IgG/IgM ELISA), aids in their mission to help the state of South Carolina and the US at large safely reopen.

Premier Medical Laboratory Services’ (PMLS) antibody testing, which was granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), requires a blood draw administered by a physician or staff which is then sent to PMLS for the IgG/IgM ELISA. Results are provided within 24 – 48 hours upon lab receipt of the testing sample and determine if there is a presence of antibodies in the patient sample – indicating that the patient had a past infection of the COVID-19 virus and could potentially be immune to a reinfection.

“Because gathering data on COVID-19 to understand its complexities is so important in overcoming it, we are dedicated to offering every effective testing resource we can,” said Kevin Murdock, founder of PMLS. “We are determined in doing our part for the safe reopening of America and will continue meeting COVID-19 head-on with the latest in technology and science.”

An ideal candidate for the antibody test is someone who believes they already have had the COVID-19 virus. Anyone currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should not take an antibody test, but rather, should take the PCR test to determine if they currently have the COVID-19 virus. According to the CDC, antibody testing should be conducted 1-3 weeks after infection, since it can take that amount of time for the body to produce antibodies.

Aside from determining potential immunity from a reinfection of COVID-19, the other benefits to receiving antibody testing are:

  • To help guide doctors in providing the correct clinical care for specific patient needs
  • To help provide researchers and healthcare professionals further understanding of COVID-19
  • To determine a patient’s ability to donate antibody-rich plasma which can be used in convalescent plasma therapy, potentially helping other patients overcome COVID-19
  • To help in developing a vaccine for COVID-19

Along with antibody testing, Premier Medical Laboratory Services also recently introduced (in partnership with Vessel Medical) a comprehensive COVID-19 safety program to equip businesses with the latest in testing, safety, and monitoring for returning employees to work – MDHealthPro Opening Up America Again.

First Commercial Laboratory in South Carolina Validated for COVID-19 Testing

Premier Medical Laboratory Services increases critical access to COVID-19 diagnostics

GREENVILLE, SC March 26, 2020  – Premier Medical Laboratory Services (PMLS), an industry leading diagnostic laboratory, headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, is announcing today they are now validated for COVID-19 testing. The laboratory is currently increasing its testing capacity of 1,000 tests per day with plans to reach 28,000 per week in the coming weeks. Now available to hospitals and physicians offices throughout the United States, the test is developed under CDC guidelines for patient testing under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).

Developed at PMLS’s 40,000 sqft COLA and CLIA regulated laboratory, results of this molecular diagnostic test are anticipated to be provided within 24 – 48 hours upon lab receipt of the testing sample. Lead times may extend due to volume. Assisting with PMLS’s testing capacity and quick turn around of results is their use of OnGen, a cloud-based Laboratory Information System (LIS) which allows testing orders to be entered and communicated directly to laboratory instruments. Expedited detection of the virus will enable further efficiency in response time to employ the appropriate courses of action for containment of the virus.

“We are proud of our team for working diligently around the clock so that we could attain validation status and increase access to testing, which is urgent at this time,” Kevin Murdock, Founder of Premier Medical Laboratory Services said. “Our lab is at the forefront of the most advanced technology and science available, providing cutting edge diagnostics to help flatten the curve of this global pandemic.”

According to recent statements by the FDA, rapid detection of COVID-19 cases in the United States requires wide availability of diagnostic testing to control the emergence of this rapidly spreading, severe illness. The World Health Organization has urged all countries to test every suspected case. “We have not seen an urgent enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing, which is the backbone of the response,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

Premier Medical Laboratory Services’ COVID-19 test is a part of their comprehensive respiratory pathogen test. It is developed to determine the causation for symptoms that a patient may be experiencing, as COVID-19 can exist as a co-infection with other viruses and bacteria. These results deliver vital knowledge – ruling out and dectecting multiple causative pathogens and allowing a physician to provide the most suitable care for their patients during this critical time.

South Carolina Medical Manufacturing Firm to Release 54,000 COVID-19 Tests Next Week

CPT Medical to increase COVID-19 diagnostics access

GREENVILLE, SC March 20, 2020  – CPT Medical, a surgical pack and kit manufacturing firm based in Greenville, SC, is now shipping COVID-19 testing kits that are available throughout the US. With 54,000 test kits in production for allocation to hospitals, nursing homes, and physician’s offices by the end of next week, CPT Medical is scheduled to release 95,000 test kits for patient testing in approximately three weeks.

Developed in CPT Medical’s FDA registered facility under CDC guidelines, the tests offered are bulk kits for nursing homes, hospitals, laboratories, and large physician’s offices as well as individual kits for laboratories. Produced in collaboration with Premier Medical Laboratory Services, a COLA and CLIA regulated laboratory, the tests serve as a COVID-19 diagnostic testing and Respiratory Pathogen Profile (RPP) kits.

Currently in development at the CPT Medical facility for telehealth services are home testing kits to be ordered by physicians to their patients. This development will help mitigate transmission of the virus between patients and healthcare providers. Once the development process is completed for the in-home testing kits, they will not be available to the general public directly, but will be accessible by physicians only for their patients.

The World Health Organization has urged all countries to test every suspected case. “We have not seen an urgent enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing, which is the backbone of the response,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

“Helping to provide a critical piece in containing the spread of COVID-19 is something we are very proud of,” stated Connie Liesman, CEO of CPT Medical. “The shortage in testing is something that we are on a mission to impact positively in South Carolina and the US at large. For over fifteen years we have manufactured surgical packs and kits for hospitals and surgery centers and our team is practiced in efficiently producing the highest quality tests for current needs.”
